Middle Ground is a runway collection I put together for Fashion and Student Trends at Berkeley. The theme of the show was indulgence — the revelry of excess in luxury, money, power, and greed. How does indulgence bring joy, but also waste? My approach to the prompt was to look at both the highs and lows of fashion, coming to a so-called "middle ground.” In opposition to the past, luxury fashion is now firmly rooted in ideas of “low-culture”, dominated by youth and streetwear. Still, others define modern-day luxuries as intangibles, like true inspiration, timelessness, health, and happiness. The collection explores the intersection between traditional highs and lows with workwear, tailoring, and subculture.
