Bumblebee Spaces is a purposeful, modular home furniture solution. The product transforms your home — your personal space — into specified configurations for your daily life, whether that be for activity, rest, storage, or work. I was brought onboard to supplement all product efforts, from making CADs, to building cardboard prototypes, installing on-site builds (in Seattle and San Francisco), writing press releases, and designing sustainability reports.

Build Prototype V1 in Seattle, Washington

I flew out to Seattle, Washington, in June 2019 to finalize our first build in the wild, ready for real people to live in. We utilized a 1 BR, 1 BA apartment, right on the waterfront, 5 minutes from Pike’s Place. This location was chosen strategically to utilize a 1 BR apartment as a highly functional living, working, and activity space in an urban area. An inside look into the mechanics that enable the lifestyle.

Demo Showroom Space in San Francisco, California

I assisted in building sample prototypes objects for our showroom space, where we frequently brought business partners, investors, and press, to demonstrate the proof-of-concept and test new features or products. I, along with my manager, installed the working versions of the drop-in ceiling, lighting fixtures, and closet component. I also had the opportunity to oversee the content production of the space, including art direction, angles, and set pieces, for photo and video opportunities.

Marketing and Press Materials for Digital Platforms

I created graphics and 3D model renders of our latest developments, incorporating them into customer introductions and onboarding decks. These were presented and made available at our showroom and prototype spaces in San Francisco and Seattle.

I also conducted several analyses on the carbon footprint of our product, mental health effects of micro-housing spaces, and the return on investment for our products, all of which were made into physical and digital flyers.

Build Prototype V2 in San Francisco, California

Our second in-the-wild build was a quick twenty minute drive from our office, located in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. I assisted in the installation of the product over a two week period in July 2019. The scouted apartment was a renovated studio, equipped with a small kitchen and bathroom, coming in approximately 250 square feet. Here, you can take an inside look on the team’s processes for installation and safety testing.

At the same time, I also reached out for strategic partnerships to expand the number of in-the-wild prototypes, resulting in meetings with realtors like The Landing, a series of luxury apartment buildings located in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco.
